JOKWW has presented a varied tapestry of guest writers in its reading series, exposing audiences to the literature of Africa, Asia, India, Native America, Latin America, and the Caribbean, as well as that of gay & lesbian writers. Readins often pair emerging writers of color with more established authors. Featured writers have included Octavia Butler, Junot Diaz, Sonia Sanchez, Thomas Glave, Shay Youngblood, Jeffrey Allen, and Sarah E. Wright.

 

Readings have been held at various locations such as the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, 651 Arts, Hanson Place Methodist Church, St. Ann's, First Unitarian Church, The Parlor, Akwaaba Mansion, and Brownstone Books, among others.
