Each year, the Professional Level Workshop hosts and participates in a writing retreat that is open to other emerging writers. This retreat was instituted as a direct result of the limited number of emerging writers of color admitted to mainstream colonies, such as MacDowell and Yaddo.
Usually held at remote rental houses in the Poconos or Catskills, the retreat allows attendees the luxury of three to fourteen days devoted to nothing else but the art of writing. Established writers are often brought in to present craft workshops to the retreat participants.
